The dominance of identity politics, political correctness, and cancel culture in the West gave rise to virtually limitless censorship, firing and intimidation of those who express views contrary to orthodox progressive views.

The Intellectual Dark Web (IDW) is an informal group of thinkers who oppose increasingly authoritarian tendencies within progressive movements in Western countries. The “dark web” part comes from the fact that these thinkers became widely popular on the internet, while simultaneously being completely unacknowledged and even rejected in the mass media. The IDW is associated with such thinkers as Eric and Bret Weinstein, Heather Heying, Jordan Peterson, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Ben Shapiro and many others. They do not represent a single political party, they have a broad range of disagreements, but one thing that does unite them is their belief in free speech.
